Why I made a Tumblr: I used to basically live on witty profiles dot com and people were all the time talking about tumblr, so I joined to fit in with the cool kids *sunglasses emoji*

Reason for URL: Super Mario Galaxy is one of my faves, so I wanted something space related for that and then the princess for Princess Peach! 💫

(N.I.N.A.) Atlas played along with JD’s arpeggio, giving a couple basic fills occasionally to enhance the feel of the piece without stealing the spotlight. He had brought the other mic over to his new spot, ready to sing along with Mia. When the verse ended, he gave the universal “wait” signal so that there could be an small instrumental break before the chorus. He gave his guitar a slight distortion, signaling JD to do the same.

When the chorus arrived, the lyrics for such hadn’t been written yet, so he mouthed “Just hum the chorus” to Mia. When she began the vocal chorus Melody, he let her do it for a bit before slowly joining in on the promised harmonization. He was feeling a wave of emotions from this song, and it was only the first chorus!

The second verse arrived. The song had become a bit heavier, with GD switching to hitting the snare head while staying true to their hihat-ride cymbal beat. Atlas had come up with the lyrics for this verse already, drawing upon the loneliness he had experienced many times. He stepped to his mic, and began signing in a weary and slightly strained voice.

“Meteor man

Meteor man

Please don’t leave me here

Cloaked in hatred and fear

I beg of you

Just take me away

Nothing else left to do

And no reason to stay.”

The bridge began. Atlas and JD were playing off of each other using different fills and counterpoints, with River and Static keeping up the arpeggio. The guitars themselves had a healthy amount of distortion, in preparation for the climax. There was a steady climb, and eventually the drums began a crescendoing rhythym on the snare and floor tom.

Atlas and Mia had a moment of silent conversation, agreeing to both sing one lyric as a send-in to the solo. As the bridge reached its highest point, JD slid down the top string while using the whammy bar to represent a comet falling.

 "Please open your arms!“

JD started the solo with a beautiful, emotional melody on the high notes. It wasn’t the flashiest solo, as this was not a song for complexity. However, it wasn’t dissapointing either. They even used harmonics at a couple points. Atlas felt a burst of pride at that, remembering how fun it was to teach JD that technique. Eventually, the solo switched over to Atlas. He used more low and mid tones for his solo, even throwing in some whammy notes. Static was playing the chords with the fervor of a church organist, and River was keeping the mood with plenty of emotion in her playing. She sounded out a low snap note resembling a ringing bell, ending the solo and signaling the transition into the final chorus.

Eventually, "Meteor Man” ended with a slow decrescendo, transitioning back into the clean arpeggio for a storybook end.

“Wow,” Atlas said. “A bit more lyric-writing, and I think we have a big hit on our hands.” He slumped down on the chair, a bit drained after all that. He was so impressed by JD’s choice of band members. Each one contributed so much to the song in a perfect way.

JD rushed to give everyone a hug. “Guys, that was awesome! I can’t wait for  others to see how talented we are!” They cheered. Static begrudgingly hugged back. They go to put up their guitar on one of the stands; River does the same. “Atlas, thank you so much! We couldn’t do this as fast as we did without you.”

GD shrugged. “I gotta admit. You bring a special magic to the music for a homestuck reject.” They jokes. “But seriously. You put words to what I was trying to figure out! It’s so much more fun to play this version than the other one.”

“I agree with GD and Pup. giving the bass and guitar separate identities but still harmonize with each other and the rest of the instruments was hard for this song. Thank you for pointing us in the right direction,” River added on.

Mia added her two cents, “If we’re gonna go on and praise you, Atlas, I gotta thank you for your vision. You kinda just came in and renovated this whole song. IT sounds less incomplete and empty and more like a song with a backstory and emotion. Thanks for reminding me how difficult and rewarding ballads are to make.

“Yea. Someone is definitely gonna cry during this song,” Static stated plainly.

“Honestly, I might cry midway through the second chorus-” Mia confessed. Though their train of thought was halted by JD screaming-

“PIZZA GUYS’S HERE!!!” they nearly tackle Mia out of the way while Static rushed over to pay the bill. GD put up their sticks, Mia turned off the mic, and they sat down on the couch, River sitting on the edge furthest from you, GD in the middle, and Mia sitting on the edge to talk to you for a moment.

“So Atlas, that was extremely powerful what you said on stage, especially on the fly. I’m sure you’ve told JD, and you don’t have to tell me, but what inspired those lyrics? Who’s the meteor man to you?”
